Frances Goodman’s Tinder Dick Pics are an extension of her Eyelash Drawing series. Each work begins with an uninvited dick pic the artist encounters on the dating app Tinder. After screen-grabbing the image, she meticulously draws a portrait of the dick pic with false eyelashes. Goodman removes the men from the image, leaving only a disembodied, floating, usually-erect penis. Her dexterity with false eyelashes reveals itself in the painstaking renderings of unique curves, wrinkles, bumps, and bulges. She titles each work with the name, age, and distance she was from the Tinder user at the time she encountered the photo.

Her deft use of materials and the arduous, time-consuming nature of the project inverts the quickie, one-off, anonymous brevity of a Swipe Left. The Tinder Dick Pics confront the over-exposure of internet culture and the aggressive sexuality found in online dating communities. These dick pics were not sent to Goodman directly, but selected by men as their online avatars. In keeping with the techniques of her practice at large, Goodman’s detailed portraits wrest control from the men who lead with their dicks rather than their faces, and regains control from their invasion into her digital space.
